Book Review | tuesdays with Morrie

Title: tuesdays with Morrie

Author: Mitch Albom

Genre: Non-fiction

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(Morrie deserves a 5⭐)

My Review:

This book holds a conversation between a student ‘Mitch Albom’ and his teacher ‘Morrie Schwartz’. The saddest part is, this is his last class by his professor, who is on his death bed and teaching him the greatest life’s lesson and how to live.

As Mitch Albom says, The last class of my old professor’s life had only one student. I was the student.

It all started after 20 years when he met his professor once again and he came to know that he was suffering from a dreadful disease.

Mitch,” he said softly, “you know that I’m dying.”
I knew.
“All right, then.” ‘Morrie swallowed the pills, put down the paper cup, inhaled deeply, then let it out. “Shall I tell you what it’s like?”
What it’s like ? To die?
“Yes,” he said.
Although I was unaware of it, our last class had just begun.”

And he got a second chance, rediscovering Morrie in the last month’s of his life. They decided the day to be Tuesday for the classes and this way every tuesday till the last one, Morrie talked about the world, about feeling sorry for yourself, about regrets, about death, about family, about emotions, about fear of aging, about money, about how life goes on, about marriage, about our culture, about forgiveness, about the perfect day and then a goodbye.

The book justifies the title “Tuesdays with Morrie”, an old man, a young man and life’s greatest lesson. It’s an amazing read of the year. I loved the book but not the way I love other books because this one is special, it’s not a self-help book, it’s more like a reality check about life, it has so many lessons, experiences by a person who had enough guts that instead of lying on bed and enjoying attention from people during his last few days, he chose to share his experiences, lessons and what he was feeling right at that moment with his favourite student till his last tuesday.

You all should read this book once in your life, if you wanna learn how to live and you wanna know the meaning of life, coming from an old man who is about to die.

Best part is, the book was Morrie’s idea, he left not only being a great teacher for Mitch Albom but also for millions of us. I felt his presence inside the book, while reading.
